When selecting an agent keep in mind that you will most likely have a lot of interaction with this person. On a personal level you should look for someone that you are comfortable with. On a professional level you should look for an agent who has the credentials to do an excellent job and the commitment to protect your interests.
Prepare a list of questions for use as you interview different agents. Keep the following points in mind.
- You need reliable information from your agent. Does the person you are interviewing give you straight answers and suggestions regarding your purchase or do you feel you are being told what you want to hear?
- It is important for the agent to be familiar with the local market.
- Experienced agents know the market and the marketing process. They'll have the best chance of quickly and smoothly helping you to buy a home.
- Use a buyers agent. The buyer agency agreement will give you full contractual representation during the transaction.
